Newport News sits right in the heart of the Virginia Peninsula, with access to the James River, plenty of parks and green space, locally owned restaurants and businesses, and neighborhoods ranging from established communities to newer developments.

Get to Know Newport News
Newport News is one of the larger cities on the Virginia Peninsula and part of the greater Hampton Roads region.
One of the things I love about the city is that there's no single version of Newport News. You can find homes near the water, established neighborhoods with mature trees, condos and townhomes, newer construction, and communities close to shopping and everyday conveniences.
And because the city stretches more than 20 miles from end to end, where you live in Newport News can make a big difference in how you experience it.
Newport News Neighborhoods & Areas
There isn't one "best" neighborhood in Newport News. The right area depends on your budget, commute, preferred type of home, and what you want nearby.
Hilton Village
One of Newport News' most recognizable historic communities, Hilton Village is known for its charming architecture, walkable commercial area and proximity to the James River.
Kiln Creek
Located near the Newport News/York County line, Kiln Creek is a planned community with a mix of housing options and convenient access to shopping, restaurants and major roads.
Port Warwick
Port Warwick combines residential living with restaurants, businesses, public art and community events. It's a great example of the pockets within Newport News where housing and local life meet.
But those are only three options.
Neighborhoods and communities throughout Newport News can feel very different from one another, which is why I recommend choosing based on how you want to live, not simply which neighborhood name you've heard the most.
Things to Do in Newport News
This is one of my favorite parts of introducing people to Newport News.
The city has a lot more going on than people sometimes give it credit for.
You can spend a day exploring the trails and waterfront at Newport News Park, visit the Virginia Living Museum or The Mariners' Museum and Park, catch an event at City Center, explore local restaurants, or head toward Hilton for coffee, food and community events.

What Is It Like to Live in Newport News?
Newport News can be a particularly practical home base if you want access to the rest of the Peninsula.
Depending on where you live, you're within reach of Hampton, York County, Williamsburg and other parts of Hampton Roads, while major employers, shopping, parks, restaurants and entertainment are located throughout the city itself.
Like any city, different parts of Newport News offer different experiences. That's why I don't believe in reducing an entire city to a list of "good" or "bad" neighborhoods.
Instead, when I'm helping someone move here, we talk about the things that actually affect their day-to-day life:
Your commute.
Your budget.
The kind of home you want.
What you want nearby.
And, of course, where all your hobbies are going to fit.
